EXPLORING 80 YEARS INTO THE FUTURE partners with VODAFONE
Design students at Victoria University of Wellington were challenged and supported by Vodafone to look 80 years into the future.
In doing this, the students explored how we might live in a hybrid virtual-physical existence and what this change will mean to humanity.
DIGITAL MIGRATION
Unlike the present day, we propose a third state of existence beyond asleep and awake, called virtually awake, where our body is at rest while our mind is active in the virtual world. With our minds active in the virtual world, we need another place to live that is smaller, reactive, and intimate.
This place will be made up of nanoparticles that mediate between our body and the environment, keeping us healthy, exercised, and fed. The same particles will care for our personal heirlooms and shared treasures. In this reality, design becomes a process intertwined with growth, allowing for the assembly and disassembly of physical things in a perpetual and sustainable cycle.
